The Washington State Capitol has had a holiday tree, provided by the Association of Washington Business, for 19 years. In 2006, it was joined by a menorah sponsored by a Seattle Jewish group.
That prompted a lawmaker from Spokane to stage a protest at the Capitol, demanding the holiday tree be called a Christmas tree. It also led a local real estate agent to sue the state to allow the nativity display depicting the birth of Jesus.
Gregoire, a Democrat, and Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna put out a joint statement Wednesday noting that the federal lawsuit led the state to create a policy allowing groups to sponsor a display regardless of that individuals or groups views.The U.S. Supreme Court has been consistent and clear that, under the Constitutions First Amendment, once government admits one religious display or viewpoint onto public property, it may not discriminate against the content of other displays, including the viewpoints of nonbelievers, the statement said.

While speaking to PEOPLE about his latest charitable efforts, Yankees star Alex Rodriguez commented for the first time on his relationship with Madonna.

Asked if there is any romance between them at all, Rodriguez reiterates, re friends – thats it.
While rumors have swirled that the slugger and the singer, 50, have been carrying on a romantic relationship and flying around the country in order to spend time together, I can tell you this, Rodriguez says, I have never been on a plane with her.
He also finds much of whats been written about them laughable: ve been to two [of her] concerts, yet Ive read that I went to 20. Ive also read that we were buying an apartment together. That is absolutely ridiculous and not true.

When pressed on how much time they have spent together, and whether he had ever stayed the night at Madonnas home, Rodriguez laughed: If I answered every rumor wed be here for three weeks.

Focused on Charity
While Rodriguez and Madonna were both in Mexico City last weekend, Rodriguez says his time was focused on running a baseball clinic for kids.
When youre among 200 kids and teaching the game of baseball it gives you an amazing feeling, he says, just that you may inspire kids to reach their goals, whether its baseball or whatever their goals might be.
The desire to help children is something he and Madonna have in common – and one reason he has become a supporter of Madonnas Raising Malawi charity.
I initially knew nothing about her charity, Rodriguez says. But after being invited to one of Madonnas fundraisers, he found that we shared a lot of the same commitments toward helping children. I was very moved by the whole thing. I saw the documentary and it was very inspiring and informative. I saw an opportunity to help and I jumped at that.
Rodriguez jumped into three other philanthropic efforts on his own recently as well: Hes funding the completion of a Pediatric Outpatient Unit at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York City; funding a Community DentCare Network at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (to provide preventative dental services for kids); and completing a new learning center at the Boys and Girls Club in Miami that A-Rod himself frequented as a child.
If it wasnt for the Boys and Girls Club, I wouldnt be where I am today, Rodriguez says. So I feel a great responsibility to not only give money, but to be there, and to be seen by the kids. I still hang out at the Boys and Girls Club.
Dealing With His Divorce
Rodriguez, who amicably settled his divorce with wife Cynthia, 35, in September, also addressed rumors that he and Cynthia had been arguing.
I have a wonderful relationship with Cynthia, says Rodriguez, who shared Thanksgiving dinner with his ex and their two children, Natasha, 4, and Ella, 7 months, last week. We try to be the best parents we can.
As for the amount of time he spends with his children, I see my children, honestly, seven days a week, which has been great. We both have a lot of respect for each other and shes a great lady.
As for Madonna: I have a lot of respect for her, he says. s very committed to making the world a better place. Shes had an amazing career, and were friends. Thats it.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - ABC has decided against giving full-season orders to Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone, but is not officially saying that the struggling shows are canceled.
The network informed the shows producers that no additional episodes will be ordered at this time. It left the door open for future orders, though that is considered unlikely.
The trio remain on the schedule for next week, and Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone will finish their current production order (on their 12th and 13th episodes, respectively). depicts an absurdly wealthy family, and Eli Stone revolves around a prophetic attorney.

Adam Sandler is a big daddy again!
The comedian, 42, and his wife Jackie, 34, have welcomed their second child, he announced on Tuesday.
"Jackie and Adam had a beautiful baby girl, Sunny Madeline on November 2," Sandler posted on his Web site. "Everyone is happy and healthy."

Damon Dash is telling more tales about his estranged business partner, Jay-Z. His latest: that Jigga set off a feud with Kanye West by refusing to bestow his bling on Kanye.
Dash claims the simmering beef dates back to a 2003 Chicago concert, where the then-up-and-coming Kanye expected ruling Roc-A-Fella artist Jay to him by presenting him with a gleaming chain.
But, according to Dash, Jay didnt want to fork over the chain.

The world dont give a s about me. You can lose everything that you love and Im not as pretty as I used to be, but Im still standing and Im the Ram. You people here are my family. So says Randy the Ram Robinson, the character Mickey Rourke plays in his come-back role in Director Darren Aronofskys (The Fountain) film The Wrestler.
When I saw this film at the Chicago Film Festival with Aronofsky doing QA following, he became very annoyed at the constant questions about who else had been considered for this role. Internet rumors (Nicolas Cage, Brad Pitt) had buzzed about a higher-budget film approach. Aronofsky warned that he would take no further questions about internet rumors...that he had always wanted Mickey Rourke for the role. That quelled the movie fanatics for a few minutes, and then another question came his way about the and Aronofsky removed his microphone and walked off.
Rourke, in an interview with Michael Phillips (Chicago Tribune, October 12, 2008) tells us that he modeled his performance not just on Randy Macho Man Savage, but on a character he knew from years before. (Rourke, himself, used to own a gym called Shapiro).
My younger brother, Joe, back in the day in Venice Beach, we used to go lift weights at Golds Gym, which was the Mecca of bodybuilding back then. And there was a guy named Magic. He had long blonde hair. He had two hearing aids and couldnt hear a (expletive deleted) thing. He was a character, a biker dude who lived in a bus behind the gym. He wrestled on the side, and I based my character on this guy Magic more than on anybody else.
Whatever the inspiration for his wrestler character in The Wrestler, the characters words ring true in reference to Rourkes own acting career and life when he speaks lines like, I just want to tell you: Im the one who was supposed to make everything okay for everybody, but things didnt work out. And I left. And now Im an old broken-down piece of meat, and Im alone, and I deserve to be alone. That bit of touching dialogue is from a touching scene with Evan Rachel Wood, playing Rourkes estranged daughter. Their trip to a deserted, run-down amusement park/arcade they had visited in her youth is symbolic of The Ram broken-down status in his career and in his life. (Some say Wood, too, may earn a Best Supporting Actress nomination).
Randy the Ram is struggling to connect to someone...anyone. He has just learned that his career as a wrestler is over because he has had a heart attack. He attempts to connect with a stripper, (played by Marisa Tomei, largely sans clothing) and with his daughter, who shouts at him, There is no more fixing this. It is broke. Permanently. The Ram is even reduced to waiting on customers in a deli wearing a nametag that bears his real name and wearing a hairnet. (Customers at the deli are Abraham Aronofsky and Charlotte Aronofsky, Darrens high school teacher parents.)
Most critics are predicting an Oscar nomination for Mickey Rourke in this tour de force performance as a professional wrestler. It is so close to his own life story that he was even allowed to improvise some dialogue and one of those speeches, given to his fans before his last fight. Remember this line?

Rourke says he might not be able to watch that scene for a while...it hits too emotionally close to home.
For this latest film, Rourke trained both with professional wrestler Afa, the Wild Samoan and with an Israeli cage fighter. Many other professional wrestlers like Brutus Beefcake are given credits at the end of the film. The film has an 80s soundtrack with original music composed by Clint Mansell and guitars by Slash and one of the films lines of dialogue (spoken by Rourke to Marisa Tomei in a bar scene) is, That Cobain pussy hadnt come around and ruined it (rock and roll) in the eighties.
The low-budget look of Randy The Ram Robinson (born Robin Ramzinsky), with his life in a trailer out back and his failing health and his poor relationship skills except for his adoring fans adds to the reality of this gritty, depressing, but ultimately noteworthy film.
Mickey wants it (fame) this time, and he seems determined to do whatever it takes to hang on to it. As another review of Rourke performances being turned in even prior to this years standout, The Wrestler, It has been a long slow climb back from the bottom, but Rourke has returned with a spate of fresh, exciting performances that caused Hollywood to take note, and he appears determined not to blow his second chance at a career in front of the cameras.

The Golden Army once again finds Hellboy conflicted between the role hes reminded hes destined to play (bringer of Hell to Earth) and the one hes chosen to play (protector of Earth). This time his adversary is an Elf prince whos tired of the ancient truce between his people and humans and has vowed to, you, know, destroy the surface dwellers as a result. Monsters need to be pounded by Hellboys big red fist, blown apart by his even bigger series of specially-designed guns and ultimately destroyed through, in true Wonder Pets fashion, the power of teamwork.
The central plot of Hellboy stopping another apocalypse is entertaining and engaging, thanks in large part to del Toros vividly imaginative character design and emphasis on making sure each one has a unique and interesting identity. But even more satisfying than that is the emotional journey, carried over from the first film, that Hellboy is taken on.

In the December issue of Vogue (via US), a reporter Jonathan Van Meter, got Jennifer Aniston to talk a bit about some recent comments Angelina Jolie made. Angelina indicated by timeline implications that she and Brad Pitt had started their romance while he was still married to Jen.
When first asked about what Jolie said, Aniston asked the reporter, to turn off the tape recorder for a moment.
She did, however, offer one thing that she wanted on the record: She said she was bothered that Jolie felt the need to recount a detailed timeline of exactly how she fell in love with Brad Pitt on the set of Mr. Mrs. Smith. Aniston said:
There was stuff printed there that was definitely from a time when I was unaware that it was happening. I felt those details were a little inappropriate to discuss.
Aniston then shook her head in disbelief and further commented.
That stuff about how she couldn’t wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool.
I think its hard for some of us to comprehend how difficult it must be to have to hear about this stuff publicly when your marriage ended badly like Jens did. Shes still seems ripped up by the whole thing but tries to be reasonable, while her beloved ex found a kindred spirit who just goes for what she wants.
Asked if she ever speaks to Pitt, Aniston said that they have exchanged a few very kind hellos and congratulations on your babies.
She stressed that the two had an amicable split The marriage didnt work out.
Aniston also said she and her mother Nancy who showed comfort to enemy Pitt after the split, are in the middle of a slow reconciliation.

I'm kinda bored, so I am blogging.

My dad brought me home a bunch of used Aerosmith CDs from the batch he's supposed to put on jukeboxes. I'm putting their greatest hits CD on my iTunes right now. I think it's their first greatest hits ever ... all the songs are from the 70s, which is awesome. So I am getting the original version of "Dream On," which I couldn't find at the iTunes store. And I get "Sweet Emotion" and the original version of "Walk This Way," which also wasn't on iTunes, and "Back In The Saddle" and "Same Old Song And Dance." Fun stuff that I didn't have to buy with my scanty iTunes money. Steven Tyler's voice has changed a lot, I've just decided while listening to "Dream On."

I made a random list yesterday. I went through all the country songs on my iTunes library and wrote down the 12 most country titles ... if you know what I mean. Here's what I got.

I guess I should ask for a lot of little things and not for Rock Band or a Nintendo DS. Damn.

U2 CDs, Heroes DVDs, Lost DVDs, Grey's Anatomy DVDs. That'll about do it.

I went ahead and straightened my hair back out. It was nice and curly for my hobbit costume, and I wanted to keep it curly for a little while longer ... but sleeping on it last night didn't do it any favors. It looked pretty much crappy this morning. Haha. So I straightened it. It's still got spray and gel in it, so it's a little different than usual, but it looks a lot better than it did when I woke up, haha.

I'm in a Peter Petrelli/Sylar/Heroes mood right now. And they're not even going to show me a new episode day after tomorrow.

Even the most die-hard Bruce Campbell fans often approach the actor's latest films with trepidation. You never know whether you're going to end up watching something sublime and smart like Bubba Ho-Tep, or something that is ... not, like Alien Apocalypse. My Name is Bruce may be selling out quickly on its tour where actor/director Campbell is traveling with the film to promote it, but that doesn't mean anything ... some people would watch him read the phone book. It was a relief to discover that My Name is Bruce is a bundle of good cheesy fun. The gags tend to work, the storyline is eye-rollingly ridiculous but rarely dull, and Campbell is at his lovably jerky best.

Campbell plays Bruce Campbell -- a less successful and more obnoxious version of himself. This Bruce lives in a trailer that has seen better days, yet acts like a numero-uno prima donna on the set of his latest Grade-Z movie, Cave Alien 2. He drunk-dials his ex-wife, he shares bottles of cheap booze with his dog, he hangs out in topless-dancing bars. Meanwhile, a small town is being tormented by an ancient Chinese ghost, and the teenager responsible for unleashing the spirit is the world's biggest Bruce Campbell fan. He convinces the townspeople that they should kidnap Bruce and bring him to their town to play the hero.
